Human ear structure and function

The ear is a sensitive organ used to hear. It converts the pressure variations in the air with audible frequencies into electric signals sent through the auditory nerve to the brain.

The outer ear is known as Pinna. Pinna collects the sound. Then it travels via the auditory canal. At the auditory canal end, there is an eardrum or tympanic membrane.

The pressure created by vibration pushes the membrane of the eardrum inward or outward.

The eardrum vibrates, the vibration is amplified by the three bones namely stirrup, anvil, and the hammer in the middle part of the ear.

The middle ear sends the amplified vibration to the inner ear. In the inner ear, the Cochlea converts the vibration into electrical signals. These electrical signals are sent to the brain via the auditory nerve and the brain interrupts them as sound.
