Kimberly Clark,a small us firm developed a material Cellu-cotton before the War.The companies main men Ernst Mahler and James ,C Kimberly found a material that it five times better absorbent than Cotton and less expensive.
They trademarked the material in US and started producing it for Surgical Dressing and Red Cross Nurses in the battlefield used them for surgical and personal hygienic use.
They also used them during their periods.This made the company to produce Sanitary Pads and Towels which went on become great success in the future.
The Sanitary pad were sold in the Kotex (short for “cotton texture”),which is a big brand today.
The Kimberly Clark also made paper hankies using the same materials which is also a great success.The paper hankies which we today is the invention of World War I.
In Winter 1918 ,children in Berlin were suffering Bone deformation disease called as Rickets.At that times its cause believed as malnutrition caused by the poverty.Kurt Huldschinsky, a doctor in Berlin conducted experiments on Children with rickets by exposing them to mercury-quartz lamps that emits ultraviolet lights.The Children with bone deformation slowly began to cure,after that the doctor found that vitamin D from sunlight is necessary to build bones.The invention of Sun Lamp has revolutionized treatment of Rickets.It is considered a greatest invention of World War I.

During World War I, Peyton Rous and J.R. Turner invented a procedure for preserving blood that could be used for transfusion at any time and anywhere. During that time, blood transfusions done by connecting the blood vessels of Donor and Recipient directly trough a tube.
To preserve blood ,physiological salt solution known as Locke’s solution and sodium citrate added to blood to prevent clotting and dextrose, a form of sugar added as a source of energy for the red cells.This revolutionized preservation of blood that leaded to open blood banks mainly for the soldiers injured during the War.
